Once again, another year has passed, and as you look back at all of the goals you set at the beginning of the year, would you say that you are happy with your accomplishments? Can you honestly say you are closer to your goals or that you beat your goals? Or did history repeat itself again leaving you feeling unaccomplished? According to a study done by the University of Scranton suggests that only 8% of people achieve there New Year’s goals. That’s a pretty low number and this study was supposedly done in the late 80’s. Just like this study suggests there are many who set too many goals, not that we should limit our goals but if it is hard for us to keep these goals we should start with baby steps. A baby doesn’t just get up and start to skip, run and jump. They get slowly learn how to move different muscles, they crawl, stand up, then eventually start to walk. Sometimes we need to do this too. Instead of saying you are going to the gym, start walking around the neighbor hood until you can walk fast or run, the happy feelings you will eventually get just by walking will motivate you to add exercising at a gym, I would suggest a group fitness class or personal training sessions at least for the first year so you can get the hang of things, and when you see more improvements you can go off on your own if you desire. It can be as simple as that. Or make a goal of staying away from sugar for 6 weeks, after you see how great you feel you will want to stay away indefinitely. When we see the improvements in our lives this will motivate us, how do you think people that take medication, or drugs quit? They ween themselves off, even if you have to be on medication for health related issues, don’t just stop the medicine and change you diet to eating healthy, you have to first start the healthy eating and exercising and when you go back for checks up the improvements will show in your bloodwork and your doctor will suggest you to lower your medications and as your healthy lifestyle increases you will soon be medicine free! This could months, or even years, this all depends on what you put in your body. If you don’t know how to eat healthy I would suggest talking with a nutritionist or dietician to get you on the right path. We can all achieve our goals, we just need to have strong will power. Most importantly I would suggest getting a closer relationship with God, you would be amazed at what He can do for you. There have been so many miracles in my life thanks to Him, I wouldn’t be alive if it wasn’t for God. He really does make the impossible possible, the hard easy and the fear go away. I wouldn’t give Him up for anything. Not many believe what God can do, I had several conversations with men and women who were going through tough times, claimed they tried everything, complained nothing works and when I tried to suggest God they shut me down, it really makes me wonder how serious they are with changing their lifestyles, if you say you will do anything to be happy then why not try God? Is it because it doesn’t involve a million dollars? A hot date? Or partying? I guess I used to be in the same mindset when I was younger so we all have to learn our own ways.
What ever your decision is make it to be towards being a better person, make a difference in this world by being the best role model you can be. We weren’t made to be miserable and settle for stuff we don’t want to do or be with people we don’t want to be with. Put all the negative feelings aside, whether it’s envy, jealousy, hate or whatever it is and create a new you! I never leave my house without asking God for help and protection, and I never go to sleep without doing the same as well as asking for forgiveness. Be the change, be healthy, and love yourself how you were made to. By being happy with ourselves will help us stay motivated, especially when knowing God loves us, so next time you feel down and unloved just know God loves you and He’s rooting for you. Who cares what everyone else thinks, they aren’t going to make you into the person you want to be. Only you can do that.
