I like to talk about prayer because I feel that it’s so important to understand, especially these days. I have had so many miracles in my life happen because of prayer so I know it works. The thing that saddens me the most is not many people believe in prayer. Sure, most of us say we pray or believe, but do we really? I personally know people that pray because their pastor or parents told them it’s the right thing to do, not because they have or want a special relationship with God. I also know people who only pray when times get hard then blast God for not answering, I’m sure we’ve all been there. It took me years to understand this but it’s pretty clear now that I needed a close relationship with God, like we all do.
Look at it this way, lets say you have a true best friend that you grew up with, someone you know that you can trust and would always want the best for you but you never respond to their messages, or answer their calls but once in a while because you’re always busy yet you have time to talk to other people, party, read your favorite novels, watch movies and blow up social media. Then when you need your best friend for something because you are all out of options they don’t answer your calls or respond to your messages because they know you are only using them and as soon as you get what you want you will start ignoring them again. Can you blame them? Of course not, we can’t expect him/her to be our last resort. This goes with all relationships including marriages, we can’t expect our spouse to be okay with adultery, right? This includes animals and children, we can’t expect them to trust, obey or love us if we neglect them. It’s selfish. In order to keep our relationships strong and healthy there has to be love, trust, obedience, discipline, etc. on both sides of the fence.
When it comes to God we need a strong relationship with Him. Remember, He created us, He deserves respect, right? Like the Bible says in John 3:31 “He that cometh from above is above all: he that is of the earth is earthly, and speaketh of the earth: he that cometh from heaven is above all.” We need to put Him above everyone, including family, friends, colleagues, etc. There’s no time to be embarrassed or whatever negative feelings we may have with putting God first. God asks us to keep his 10 commandments, He wants us to study His word for guidance, and He wants us to rely on Him for help. Psalm 119:105 says “ Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” This is how we should live our lives. Once you get on the right path you will feel yourself changed, you will see the change around you, people will see the change as well.
When we put God first God will shower us with blessings. I know it can be hard sometimes to stay on the right track but remember God gave up His only son Jesus so we could have our sins forgiven and have a chance at Heaven. Just pray for help, trust God and ask for sincere forgiveness when you mess up. There is happiness and love out there. Love yourself enough to know that God loves you and wants you as His child for eternity.
